GENERAL INFORMATION:
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) or to other benzodiazepines, such as chlordiazepoxide (Librium), clorazepate (Tranxene), diazepam (Valium), lorazepam (Ativan), or oxazepam (Serax). This medication can cause birth defects in an unborn baby. Do not use Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) if you are pregnant.
Before taking Xanax, tell your doctor if you have any breathing problems, glaucoma, kidney or liver disease, or a history of depression, suicidal thoughts, or addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Do not drink alcohol while taking Xanax. This medication can increase the effects of alcohol.
This medication may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it.
SIDE EFFECTS OF XANAX:
Side effects from Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) are common and include:
*drowsiness
*dizziness
*tiredness
*weakness
*dry mouth
*diarrhea
*upset stomach
*changes in appetite
Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
*restlessness or excitement
*constipation
*difficulty urinating
*frequent urination
*blurred vision
*changes in sex drive or ability
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
*shuffling walk
*persistent, fine tremor or inability to sit still
*fever
*difficulty breathing or swallowing
*severe skin rash
*yellowing of the skin or eyes
*irregular heartbeat
INDICATIONS AND USE OF XANAX:
XANAX 1MG (ALPRAZOLAM) is use for the management of anxiety disorders or the short-term symptomatic relief of symptoms of excessive anxiety. Anxiety or tension associated with the stress of everyday life usually does not require treatment with an anxiolytic.
Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) is indicated for the treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and is also indicated for the management of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia.
Anxiety associated with depression is responsive to Xanax.
DOSAGE FOR XANAX:
DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take this medicine for longer than prescribed. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may be habit forming.
>Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor.
>Store this medicine at room temperature, away from heat and light.
>If you miss a dose of this medicine and you are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If you do not remember until later, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
>Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do not use this medicine for other health conditions.
>Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
>Elderly Patients: The initial dosage is 0.125 mg (125 mcg) 2 or 3 times daily. If necessary, this dosage may be increased gradually depending on patient tolerance and response.
>Symptoms of a Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) overdose may include extreme drowsiness, confusion, muscle weakness, loss of balance or coordination, feeling light-headed, fainting, or coma.
WARNING:
Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) is not recommended for use in patients whose primary diagnosis is psychosis or depression. This medicine will add to the effects of alcohol and other CNS depressants (medicines that may make you drowsy or less alert). Check with your doctor before taking any such depressants while you are taking this medicine. Safety in pregnancy has not been established, therefore its use is not recommended. Studies have suggested an increased risk of congenital malformations associated with the use of the benzodiazepines Since Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine derivative; its administration is rarely justified in women of childbearing potential. If the drug is prescribed to a woman of child bearing potential she should be warned to consult her physician regarding the discontinuation of the drug if she intends to become or suspects that she is pregnant. Withdrawal reactions may occur when dosage reduction occurs for any reason. This includes purposeful tapering, but also inadvertent reduction of dose (e.g., the patient forgets, the patient is admitted to a hospital, etc.). Therefore, the dosage of Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) should be reduced or discontinued gradually.
PRECAUTIONS:
Do not drink alcohol while taking Xanax. This medication can increase the effects of alcohol. Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.
Avoid using other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold medicine, pain medication, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety). They can increase some of the side effects of Xanax.
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with Xanax 1mg (Alprazolam) and lead to potentially dangerous effects. Discuss the use of grapefruit products with your doctor. Do not increase or decrease the amount of grapefruit products in your diet without first talking to your doctor.
